A major crypto milestone took place on Wednesday. Coinbase has officially added Ripple’s dollar stablecoin to its trading apps. The news came out on October 28, 2026. Retail buyers can now buy the coin. Big fund managers can access it too. The new asset is named Ripple USD, or RLUSD. Users can trade and hold the coin across three major platforms.
Coinbase added RLUSD to its retail phone app. It also added the coin to Coinbase Exchange. In addition, big institutional clients can trade RLUSD through Coinbase Prime. Users can swap normal paper dollars for RLUSD at a one-to-one rate. They can also swap other dollar stablecoins without paying extra fees.
The new coin works across three different computer networks. Traders can deposit and withdraw RLUSD on the XRP Ledger. They can also move coins on Ethereum. In addition, the coin runs on Base. Base is Coinbase’s own fast blockchain network. Coinbase plans to add support for overseas trading desks soon. Those desks will be able to use the coin as loan collateral.
The listing caps off a huge week of growth for Ripple. Earlier this week, federal bank watchdogs gave Ripple big news. The OCC approved Ripple’s plan to launch a national trust bank. That decision puts the RLUSD stablecoin under direct federal oversight.
Moody’s also evaluated the coin. The agency gave RLUSD an investment-grade rating. The rating reflects the high quality of the cash reserves that back the coin. Ripple keeps its reserves in safe government bonds and bank deposits. Custody giant BNY Mellon holds the cash reserves. The bank keeps the assets safe.
Brett Tejpaul helps lead institutional sales at Coinbase. He explained that large firms want safe payment choices. They want tools that fit their business plans. Tejpaul said adding RLUSD helps Coinbase become an everything exchange. Clients can pick the digital tools they need on a secure platform.
The RLUSD stablecoin has grown very fast. It first launched in December 2024. Today, its total market value has passed 2.6 billion dollars. More than one billion dollars of that supply sits on the XRP Ledger. The network settles trades in just three to five seconds.
Ripple also expanded deals with BNY Mellon and Robinhood this week. Robinhood will use RLUSD to settle big trades. The app will also offer the coin to its retail users later this year. BNY Mellon will allow clients to mint and cash out coins directly through the bank.
Stablecoins are digital tokens pegged to standard currencies. Most tokens follow the United States dollar. Big banks use these coins to move money across borders in seconds. Traditional bank wires can take days to clear. Digital dollar coins fix that delay. Companies can settle bills at any time. They work on weekends and holidays too. Companies can manage payroll and vendor payments with ease.
The competition among dollar stablecoins is heating up fast. Firms like Circle and Tether have led the market for years. Now, Ripple is expanding its share among regulated banks. Having multiple regulated coins gives consumers more choices.
Market experts say the Coinbase listing gives RLUSD massive mainstream reach. Millions of regular shoppers and thousands of funds can now buy the coin with ease. The move shows that regulated dollar coins are becoming the backbone of global digital finance. Digital cash is changing how world business gets done. More payment platforms are planning to add stablecoin rails next year. Many banks in Asia and Europe are looking into the token. They want to test instant dollar transfers across different chains. This work will help connect traditional finance with public blockchains. Early trials have shown fast settlement and low costs. Global banks will continue to test the rails next year.
