The world’s largest digital asset manager is making it easier for big investors to turn their crypto into fund shares. On October 21, 2026, Grayscale Investments announced a major expansion of its in-kind subscription service. The company opened the feature across ten of its crypto exchange-traded products and private trusts.

Grayscale is a pioneer in digital currency investing. The firm runs popular funds like the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust and Grayscale Ethereum Trust. In the past, people who wanted to invest in a Grayscale fund had to use normal cash. An investor who already owned cryptocurrency had to sell their coins on an exchange first. Selling coins often created big tax bills and trading fees. Then, the investor had to wire the cash to Grayscale to buy fund shares.

The in-kind process removes those painful middle steps. Think of it like trading gold bars directly for paper gold certificates. You do not have to sell the gold for cash first. Under the expanded program, eligible investors can deposit their actual crypto tokens directly with Grayscale. In return, the firm issues new fund shares of equal value. Investors do not have to sell their coins on an open exchange. This allows wealthy individuals and institutions to move large coin holdings into regulated investment structures without triggering immediate capital gains taxes.

The service covers ten different crypto products. Investors can deposit Bitcoin, Ether, and XRP. The lineup also supports Solana, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, File coin, Stellar Lumens, and decentralized finance tokens. Each fund has a minimum entry amount. As of October 20, minimum investment sizes range from about 80,300 dollars to roughly 364,800 dollars depending on the specific product.

In-kind creation is a standard feature in traditional stock market ETFs like the S&P 500 funds. By bringing this proven mechanism to crypto funds, Grayscale is helping digital asset investing mature. Accredited investors can work with their regular brokers to transfer coins from private hardware wallets straight into Grayscale’s custody. This eliminates cash drag and prevents unwanted slippage during large transfers.

Institutional wealth managers welcomed the announcement. Many family offices and private investment funds hold large piles of digital assets that they bought years ago at very low prices. Selling those coins for cash would trigger huge tax bills under United States tax laws. By contributing the coins directly in-kind, fund managers can convert cold wallet tokens into publicly traded shares that sit safely in traditional brokerage accounts.

Grayscale works with regulated custody partners like Coinbase Custody to keep all deposited tokens in secure offline storage. Deposited coins are stored in multi-signature cold vaults with institutional insurance coverage. Shares can be held inside standard retirement accounts, trust funds, and wealth management portfolios. Financial advisers can easily track the shares on regular account statements.

Authorized participants and broker-dealers manage the daily creation flow. When an investor deposits tokens, the custodian verifies the on-chain transfer and issues equivalent trust units. This process keeps
fund share prices tightly aligned with the spot value of underlying digital tokens. High-net-worth investors can also access diversified multi-token baskets like the Grayscale Digital Large Cap Fund.

Corporate treasuries that hold cryptocurrency on their balance sheets can also use the service. Instead of managing complex custody infrastructure in-house, companies can swap idle tokens for fund shares
that can be audited easily by traditional accounting firms.

This expansion shows how Wall Street is building smarter bridges to digital assets. By allowing in-kind crypto contributions across ten different tokens, Grayscale is helping big coin holders join the traditional
financial system with greater tax efficiency and lower costs. It represents a significant step forward for regulated digital asset management.
